In Greece Canary made its appearance after half of the last century. Before the Canary spread, goldfinches, galianders  and other songbirds, accompanied the Greek to his coffee in the paved courtyards and balconies in the company of geraniums and basil.

Important was the offer of the refugees of M. Asian in the spread of songwriting. In 1922, they brought with them pain, their passion for songbirds and in particular for goldfinches. Known nationwide as excellent connoisseurs of voices, in Nea Filadelfia, Nikaia, Nea Smyrni and other regions of Greece have continued this tradition until today.

These old “bird owners” considered as a good bird the bird changing tones and voices without intermediate pauses.  Duration and timbre are not taught by cassettes or other methods, as it is purely a matter of bird, and in particular duration is a matter of both age and other factors. In small wooden cages, oil-painted to withstand time, even today they breed wild birds elsewhere, Canaries elsewhere and elsewhere their “mixture”.

The Canary, as a versatile pet, was beginning to be preferred to the wild and more difficult to adapt and feed songbirds. However, the beautiful appearance and the beautiful and complex chirping of some wild birds, contributed to remain to this day in the preference of the Greeks as pets.
